This Legionella & Legionnaires Disease Training Course (Classroom) content is aimed to help Duty Holders and Responsible Persons to better understand their legal responsibilities and the health and safety risks from legionnaires disease.

Legionella and legionnaires disease has the potential to cause serious harm to health if not monitored correctly. All water systems require by law a legionella risk assessment and therefore all duty holders and responsible persons with water systems should undertake a legionella awareness training course to understand what legionella is, why it is important, understand legionella health and safety and what the risks are if someone is infected from contaminated water.

This legionella awareness course training material will cover topics such as legal requirements, medical, the background of legionella disease, safety management, legionella awareness and ongoing associated monitoring requirements. Complete the legionella awareness course and be accredited with a legionella training certificate.

Who should take this legionella & legionnaires disease awareness training course?


This legionella awareness course is suitable for duty holders and the legionella responsible persons for the health and safety of buildings with cold water systems of any size. This includes employers, self-employed and people who control cold water systems.

Landlords also have an obligation to be aware of the dangers of legionella and must undertake a legionella risk assessment to identify the risks from legionella.

This legionella training course is written in accordance with the Approved Code of Practice L8 (HSG 274) and covers areas necessary in detail through the modules.



On successful completion of this legionella awareness training course, you will receive a legionella awareness training course certificate via email the same working day as completed. This certificate can be used to provide evidence for compliance and auditing.

This certificate does not have an expiry date. However, based on industry best practice guidelines, the recommended renewal period for this training is every 2 years.

At the end of this legionella awareness training course learners will complete the following learning outcomes:

If you don’t pass the online course don’t worry, you can take the test as many times as you need with no further charge.
