Calcium is a mineral found in limestone and chalk. As rainwater permeates the rock, it collects and dissolves calcium which then enters groundwater, rivers and lakes. Higher levels of calcium contribute to the hardness of the water, along with other dissolved minerals, predominantly magnesium.

While calcium is an essential mineral for human health, it is not good news for industry. Calcium scale buildup in your pipes and equipment will cause problems for machinery and appliances, reducing their efficiency and shortening their lifespan. To prevent the build up of scale, many manufacturers in hard water regions use water softeners.

Step 3 - FREE Return Delivery

Drop off your FREE return package to any local Post Office on the same day you have taken your sample.

Step 4 - Get your Results

Your sample results are tested in a UKAS approve laboratory and sent to you in PDF format in 10-14 days.

What is calcium?

Calcium is a mineral that’s vital to our health. We need plenty of calcium in our diet to keep our bones and teeth strong. It also plays a part in regulating muscle contractions and blood clotting. Higher levels of calcium occur in the water in areas where there is a lot of limestones – rainwater filters through the rock and dissolves calcium which it carries into the groundwater, rivers and lakes.

Why is calcium bad news for machinery and appliances?

In hard water areas, the higher levels of calcium in the water can cause a buildup of limescale deposits in machinery and appliances. The more scale there is, the less efficient your equipment will be.
