Carbonate Analysis

Carbonate Analysis
Carbonate is an important component of the water that helps neutralise acidic compounds and contribute to the overall taste and quality of your water. However, high levels of carbonate can lead to issues such as hard water or scale buildup in appliances and pipes.
Carbonate analysis measures the carbonate hardness and the bicarbonate and carbonate ions in the water which contribute to the alkalinity levels. You will therefore get the peace of mind that your water is at a safe carbonate level as well as the information needed to make informed decisions about any necessary treatment or filtration.

FAQs
What is carbonate?
Carbonate is a compound made up of carbon and oxygen and exists in two forms in water: bicarbonate and carbonate, depending on the pH level of the water.
Carbonate can have a positive effect on the water by neutralising acidic compounds; this can improve the taste and water quality. Unfortunately, high levels of carbonate produce hard water. This means there will be a buildup of scale in your water pipes that will reduce the efficiency and lifespan of machinery and appliances.
Like calcium, carbonate is good for human health. It helps regulate the pH balance of our blood and is necessary for strong bones and teeth.
Unfortunately, high levels of carbonate in drinking water may be indicative of the presence of other minerals or contaminants that may be harmful to human health, and this is why you need to test the carbonate levels of your water.
Why is carbonate bad news for machinery and appliances?
In hard water areas, the higher levels of carbonate in the water can cause a buildup of limescale deposits in machinery and appliances. The more scale there is, the less efficient your equipment will be.
How long does the test take?
Laboratory testing takes at least 10-14 days.
What do I get once the test is complete?
Through our UKAS-accredited analysis, you will receive the results of the test as well as a certificate.
