Legionella awareness training is a key part of health and safety compliance requirements. Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, the Health and Safety Executive states that employers, landlords, facilities managers and any designated responsible person must understand the health risks associated with legionella bacteria. This inevitably means sending relevant staff members on legionella training courses.

Online legionella awareness course

Basic awareness of legionella bacteria is key to a good understanding of why there is a need for health and safety control measures, and why there is a need for a regular legionella risk assessment. Our online legionella training course is aimed at responsible persons, employers and landlords, as well as anyone who is interested in finding out more about legionella bacteria and Legionnaires’ disease. Click here for more details. The course includes industry-related training that covers the dangers of legionella bacteria and Legionnaire’s disease as well as legionella control, including UK legislation and legal obligations, hot and cold water management, record management, and legionella risk assessments.

Legionnaires’ disease awareness

Legionnaires’ disease is caused by legionella bacteria entering the lungs in tiny aerosol droplets of water. As soon as legionella gets into the lungs they become infected and, if the person is susceptible to Legionnaires – either through age or chronic health conditions – they will start exhibiting ‘flu-like symptoms that could develop into Legionnaires’ disease. It is therefore extremely important to understand how to protect your employees, visitors and business from legionella and the possibility of contracting Legionnaires’ disease.

How do you prevent legionella bacteria from multiplying?

The online training course will cover many aspects of legionella control, including the importance of keeping the cold water below 20oC and the hot water above 50oC, as well as the importance of not allowing your water to stagnate. You will learn about the importance of regular legionella risk assessments, monitoring, water testing and analysis, and record-keeping.
