How Often Do I Need To Service My Basement Pumps?

Basement pump servicing is recommended every three to four months.

A defective sump pump probably won’t be obvious until it fails to operate when it’s needed. By then, basement flooding and water damage could be extreme. Routine sump pump maintenance is recommended every three to four months with a more comprehensive procedure annually. Basement pump servicing and regularly checking your basement pumps

What’s Done During A Water Pump Service?

There are a lot of parts on a water pump station, which all require periodic attention to check their condition. As we’ve already mentioned, the type of pump and the application will dictate the checks that are relevant to your system. We’ve included a list of some of the key areas to assess in a submersible pumping station below.

  • Check the physical condition of the pumping equipment used in your pump station to ensure it is secure and undamaged.
  • Specifically examine the condition of the pump station including its impeller, seals, bearings, valves and volute.
  • Assess the condition of pipework for wear or damage.
  • Ensure sump and floats are clean.
  • Check electrical components and equipment to ensure insulation is intact, fuses are in good condition, and bulbs and heaters are working properly.
  • Finally, check that all safeguards are operating correctly and that alarm beacons and buzzers are functional.
When Should I Replace My Pump Station?

Knowing when to replace a water pump can be difficult. Most of the wear that occurs on a water pump is on the internal parts of the unit and therefore, can’t be seen until opened up. Therefore, in most cases, you will have to rely on your pump specialist to provide you with guidance during routine maintenance and servicing. Aside from replacing a damaged or worn pump, there is also a case for replacing an old inefficient one.

Why is it important to maintain and service water pumps?

Regular maintenance and servicing of water pumps are crucial to ensure they operate efficiently, preventing water supply issues and potential disruptions to business operations.

What are the most common signs indicating pump issues?
  • Unusual noises such as banging, grinding, squealing, whining, or clunking
  • Vibrations during operation
  • Overheating of pump components
  • Decreased pump performance or efficiency
  • More frequent cycling on and off
  • Leakage from the pump
  • Increased energy bills without explanation
  • Decreased water pressure
  • Changes in water quality
  • Persistent clogged drains
  • Backup of sewage
How can I address pump-related problems?

If you notice any of these signs, it’s essential to have your pump inspected and serviced promptly by experienced engineers to prevent further damage and ensure optimal performance.

What does pump servicing involve?

Servicing typically includes inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of worn-out components as necessary to maintain functionality and prevent breakdowns.

How can I prevent pump issues in the future?

Establishing a regular servicing schedule with qualified professionals like uRisk ensures that your pump systems remain reliable and efficient, minimizing the risk of costly repairs and downtime.

Why choose uRisk for pump maintenance?
