Water Chlorination Certificate Services
What is a water chlorination certificate and is it different to a disinfection? A water chlorination certificate proves to the local water company or body that you have chlorinated your water system, be it a short length of pipe or a full system and that it is ready to use. A disinfection or chemical disinfection is the same thing. Having a chemical disinfection means you are disinfecting the water system with a chemical, normally chlorine. This is where the term chlorination derives.
When do I need a chlorination certificate?
Where necessary, hot and cold water services should be cleaned, flushed and disinfected in the following instances, as specified in BS 8558:2011:
- New water system installations or refurbishment of hot and cold water systems;
- Installation of new components;
- Systems that have been out of use for long periods of time;
- Evidence of contamination or stagnation in tanks;
- Substantial alterations to the systems;
- Following sample results indicating contamination;
- During or following an outbreak of legionella;
- Where indicated by the risk assessment.
If you are uncertain on the actions you need to take then contact our team today.

Chlorination Certificate FAQs
Do I require samples for my chlorination?
Typically yes, if you have been instructed to undertake a chlorination or water disinfection, then it is likely you will require water analysis or testing of the water quality to confirm the pipe work is clean and clear of bacteria or other contaminants.
Can sampling be included in the service?
Absolutely, they can be included with the chlorination service. Please note that samples are not included as standard because there are many different standards to adhere to, so we prefer to understand your sampling requirements prior to provide a more accurate quote and service.
Is the disinfection or chlorination guaranteed to work?
Unfortunately no. Micro-bacteria and pathogens can work in mysterious ways, but rest assured you’re in good hands. Our experienced team will complete tasks as per industry guidelines in order to provide the best possible outcome on each disinfection.
Is it safe to use my water until the chlorination?
The guidelines when bacteria is present becomes a little hazy. Our recommendation is simply to avoid using the water and remove the risk entirely until water safety is confirmed. Until then, there are filtration alternatives to help reduce and remove the risks as a temporary fix until a resolution is found.
