Customer: Primary School Trust of 12 Schools Location: Cambridgeshire
The Problem
uRisk were contacted to help improve legionella control and management for a trust of 12 schools. uRisk deployed our specialist team to undertake legionella risk assessments to help prepare a legionella control and management programme. It was found there were significant failures in the previous contractors risk assessments, water logbook and schematic inaccuracies. Thus, leaving pupils, staff, contractors, and visitors exposed to increase risks of contracting legionnaires disease.
Our Findings
uRisk quickly found that the legionella risk assessments were significantly out of date and in need of updating to help create an accurate programme of control. The water logbooks were being completed in-correctly as the risk assessments we re not current and up to date. The water system schematics were also out of date, which left the school’s maintenance team in the dark on the correct number of assets they had.
With further discussions with the maintenance team it was clear more training was needed to help their team understand their water requirements and responsibilities to keep their water safe.
With the schools having high turnover of maintenance staff, they are often in a position that no single person understands the water system entirely. So when uRisk arrived and was able to quickly and clearly outline the water system design and create a plan for managing their control measures, it was a great relief. uRisk are now providing our services to the schools as their chosen water hygiene partner, who has data and detailed knowledge of their water systems to help with any water situation.
