How Much is a Legionella Risk Assessment?

by | Apr 24, 2017 | Blog

Under the Health and Safety Executive’s Code of Practice, employers and duty holders have a legal responsibility to ensure the health and safety of their employees and any risks that may arise from work activities. This includes controlling the risk from legionella bacteria – the source of the potentially fatal Legionnaires’ disease – by undertaking regular legionella risk assessments

What does a legionella risk assessment involve?

A legionella risk assessment must look at your cold water systems and hot water systems as well as your water storage to ensure the water is always at a safe temperature, and your entire water system is flushed on a regular basis. The assessment will also look at areas where legionella bacteria could accumulate, such as dead legs, non-WRAS approved fittings.

Legionella risk assessment cost

Legionella risk assessment costs will, of course, vary depending on the size of your water systems, and the type and size of premises you’re based in.

For small commercial premises

Small commercial premises are mostly used by businesses such as dental practices, doctors surgeries, commercial offices, community centres, gyms, hair and beauty salons, etc.

Legionella risk assessments with small water systems, often with less than 10-60 sinks, typically cost between £300 and £600, depending on the number of tanks, cylinders and other assets.

For large commercial and public sector premises

Larger commercial premises can cost anything from £500 upwards, again, depending on the number of tanks, cylinders and other assets that need to be included in the assessment. Larger organisations include factories & warehouses, hotels, care homes, hospitals, council premises, etc.

Please bear in mind these are industry guide prices only and do not reflect uRisk’s prices. Your water system may fall into either category.
