Gross beta activity analysis is testing for beta-emitting radionuclides (radioactive contaminants) in closed water systems. Gross beta radionuclides can come from industrial processes that utilise radioactive materials and medical facilities.

The presence of gross beta radiation can be harmful for staff members, and can cause significant damage to human tissue if ingested or inhaled.

Drop off your FREE return package to any local Post Office on the same day you have taken your sample.

Step 4 - Get your Results

Your sample results are tested in a UKAS approve laboratory and sent to you in PDF format in 10-14 days.

FAQs

How harmful is gross beta radiation?

If gross beta particles are ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin or cuts, they can be extremely harmful to human health. Depending on the exposure, symptoms could be as mild as skin irritation, burns or inflammation, or with greater exposure it could cause radiation sickness including nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Long term exposure carries an increased risk of cancer, genetic mutations and reproductive problems. Exposure to high levels of beta radiation can be fatal. 

How long does the test take?

Laboratory testing takes at least 10-14 days.
