Nickel Analysis
Nickel is an important mineral that’s used in the creation of around 75% of the world’s stainless steel. The addition of nickel makes the alloy much more versatile, making the steel easy to shape and weld and non-magnetic. It helps to give stainless steel more strength, making it a practical material suitable for engineering applications and plumbing, as well as water systems infrastructure.
Nickel is also mixed with other metals such as copper, iron, zinc and chromium in the manufacture of coins, industrial valves, heat exchangers, ceramic paints, batteries, and jewellery.

FAQs
Is nickel harmful in drinking water?
Small quantities of nickel occur naturally in our drinking water and are a necessary element in our diet. On occasion, higher levels of nickel will leach into the water from nickel and chrome plating on taps, especially when they’ve recently been fitted, or are old and beginning to deteriorate. High levels of nickel in tap water could cause skin irritation or a rash. If inhaled in high doses, nickel can be carcinogenic.
Why do you need to test for nickel in closed water systems?
If the water in your closed water systems is not regularly tested for contaminants and treated accordingly, the risk of corrosion becomes much greater. If corrosion is unchecked, it will cause blockages and damage resulting in inefficiencies and expensive repairs.
