Pesticides and PCB’s Analysis

Our Pesticides and PCB analysis kits are perfect for identifying the pesticide and PCB residue levels through an in-depth chemical and microbiological analysis.

Pesticide compounds can easily leach into groundwater. Organochlorine pesticides are chlorinated hydrocarbons that were historically used in agriculture and mosquito control to an extensive degree. Representative compounds in this group include DDT, methoxychlor, dieldrin, chlordane, toxaphene, mirex, kepone, lindane, and benzene hexachloride. Several years ago, they were removed from the market because of the length of time they persist in nature.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) are a group of manmade chemicals that are oil liquids or solids. They are clear to yellow in colour and have no smell or taste. They enter the environment through spills and leaks from electrical, heat transfer, and other equipment, pigments and dyes, and improper disposal and storage. Once in the environment they can travel for long distances, so it is important to regularly test water for PCBs. This testing is normally performed via the chromatographic method in combination with mass spectrometry (MS) and the PCB must be first extracted from the source material.

Although they have been banned for decades, PCBs continue to cause a variety of health risks today. They have been known to cause cancer and affect the human immune system, reproductive system, nervous system, and more.

FAQs

Why Choose uRisk?

Our UKAS-accredited laboratory offers one of the widest ranges of pesticide screens in the UK. We routinely participate in FAPAS proficiency. In addition, we maintain a well-developed and extensive internal quality control system which helps control critical processes and ensures the consistency and accuracy of results.

What Is Pesticide Analysis?

Pesticide residue analysis is often required to ensure water is safe for consumption, land is suitable for development, or to monitor the “chemical status” of an area.

Choosing the correct pesticide or pesticide residue to test for can often be challenging. To make the process more convenient for clients, we have developed packages that correspond to national as well as European requirements. You can create bespoke packages or pick individual compounds from an extensive list.
