Water Hardness Analysis

Water Hardness Analysis
This water hardness testing kit is perfect for obtaining reliable and accurate diagnosis of the hardness of your water. This is particularly helpful for the South East of England and London due to the water hardness levels being predominantly high. However your water should be tested regardless of your location in order to be suitably well informed about the conditions of your water source.
Water is naturally soft when it falls from the sky and gains its hardness after coming into contact with the ground. Hard water has a high number of dissolved minerals, predominantly magnesium and calcium.
If rain water lands in an area with porous rock such as limestone, the water penetrates the ground and, as it passes through it, collects and dissolves particles and minerals such as calcium and magnesium, thereby gaining its hardness.
When hard water makes its way through the mains and into our homes for cooking, cleaning, washing and heating it causes problems. Millions of people in the UK receive hard water through the mains water supply. When hard water molecules are agitated (warmed up) by home appliances such as kettles and dishwashers, the hardness can result in a build-up of scale.
Scale is not something you want for many reasons including reducing the effectiveness of household appliances, and also blocking or damaging pipes.

FAQs
What causes water hardness?
Water is naturally soft when it falls from the sky and gains its hardness after coming into contact with the ground. If rain water lands in an area with porous rock such as limestone, the water penetrates the ground and, as it passes through it, collects and dissolves particles and minerals such as calcium and magnesium, thus gaining its hardness.
Why is it important to monitor your water’s hardness?
When hard water makes its way through the mains and into our home, problems can arise. The hardness can result in a build-up of scale which can block or damage pipes as well as break or reduce the effectiveness of household appliances, for example the boiler.
How long does the test take?
Laboratory testing takes at least 10-14 days.
What do I get once the test is complete?
Through our UKAS accredited analysis, you will receive the results from the test as well as a certificate.
